UEFA Referees Committee members Kyros Vassaras and José Fontelas Gomes were on hand to give advice to the referees, along with main instructor Pedro Ángel Galán Nieto (Spain) and colleagues Perry Gautier (Belgium), Ivan Novak (Croatia) and Massimo Cumbo (Italy). The international referees took a fitness test, and their body fat and weight were measured. Specialist instructors Joâo Dias (Portugal) and Dan Monea (Romania) provided expert guidance to the officials on specific futsal fitness preparation. On the experience, Carl said “It was a fantastic but very intense three day course, filled with testing, both theoretical and physical, and seminars on certain laws of the game. I have certainly benefitted from the course and I’ve developed a greater insight in to the expectations of an international referee. The opportunity to work with Europe’s best futsal referees and instructors was amazing; I’m now looking forward to starting the new season and applying the knowledge I have learned over the last few days.”

Cheryl’s clips go down a festive treat! In our last meeting of 2017, we were very fortunate for our very own FIFA referee Cheryl Foster, to conclude her two part clips analysis session. The meeting was well attended and we are very thankful that you all turned up in such supportive numbers, we’re sure the free food had nothing to do with it! Cheryl’s session created much debate and highlighted the different refereeing philosophies within our diverse association, whilst using the Laws of the Game to back up opinions, which was fantastic to see! Just like part one, Cheryl not only provided some fantastic clips that created much discussion, but also provided reasoning for the correct outcome and more impressively, linked the clips to her own learning as a successful, high flying match official. The session was highly engaging; predominantly focused on the role of the referee, the referee’s positioning, anticipation and decision making within a team. We would like to thank Cheryl for her time and for the fantastic session; all of the members in attendance certainly enjoyed it and definitely benefitted from her knowledge. We would like to wish all of our members and fellow officials a very merry Christmas and a very prosperous 2018!
